Harris Residence

Las Vegas

 

The client, a builder, desired a contemporary ranch style home for his personal residence on a rural lot.

 

Its design incorporated a single exterior wall height as requested for construction simplicity, and features an

open layout with interesting interior volumes and views to the exterior.  

 

Although the roof design appears fairly tame at first glance, the deep, smooth plastered overhangs, viewed

through the transom (overhead) windows, blends dramatically with interior ceilings providing a sense of airiness throughout while the great room ceiling terminates in a voluminous, pyramid shaped skylight.

Major renovation/expansion

Private Residence, Las Vegas

 

This project included the design of the addition of two structures to an existing residence site, a fitness/pool house overlooking the pool, a guest casita attached to the residence, a two-story addition to the home, interior modifications, and complete landscape renovation.

A tract of 65 houses

adjacent to Summerlin Parkway, Las Vegas

 

This project, circa 1989, was a real challenge. The developer started out with some poorly designed models prepared by a drafting service.  Knowing he was in trouble, with all loans in place and the clock ticking, he asked me to create completely new models on the same foundation 'footprints'.

 

The homes are 30' wide, situated on 40' lots.

 

The style and materials, popular back then with developers, was well-received by his targeted audience.  The entire development sold with no more advertising than a sign at the entrance to the development.

 

Of note is that I convinced the developer to install gas fireplaces in lieu of wood-burning units to help reduce air pollution, a rarity in Las Vegas back then.
